The point?[edit]

Having just added about 100 images to category "Created with CombineZM" and another 100 to "Created with CombineZP", I noticed a request at the top of the category to add a template instead of the category. Well the template is all very nice and follows a lot of similar templates in other areas, but I don't really see the point. The template does little more than add a hidden category, and an information bar to the description. If the information is useful, then why not just unhide the category, it is rather easier to add a category than to add a template to existing images.

Perhaps intergrating it into {{Focus stack}} would make sense.

Well, I have to disgaree with you.
It is much easier to add a category if you have once added the template. You just add (or change) the category in the template and you change it for all images (So you don't have to do it one by one which prevents pretty long work when you have added >100 images). You can also created subcategories very easily via the template. You can eg. sort the images by used stack mode.
The template can be used for many other things. For example to include the number of images out of which the image was created and the mode which was used to create the image. If you want to include an addidtional option you also can do that via the template.
Moreover - I think one of the most important features in a multi lingual project like Wikimedia Commons - the template can be displayed in many different languages. So if somebody wants to take similar images he knows which program was used (in case he needs a program or wants to have a free alternative).
The category will not be unhidden since it is not really interesting with what the image was created. The ordinary user doesn't care if the image was created with program A or Z. The images content for example is much more important and thereby a non-hidden category. Category "Created with CombineZ()" is just a collection for all images which were taken with that program like you collect all images together which are licenced under one licence (eg. CC-BY-SA-3.0 -> CC-BY-SA-3.0)
Such a category could be used for example if you need images to create a report about CombineZP where you want to show what's possible, strength and weakness of the program.
It's easier? Come on. "[[Category:Created with CombineZP]]" is the same work as {{Created with CombineZP}} especially when you copy&paste the text
