other date[edit]

{{Other date}} already provides this functionality. "{{other date|ca|1980}}" will render as "circa 1980

date QS:P,+1980-00-00T00:00:00Z/9,P1480,Q5727902

". An further advantage of that template is its ability to handle with differing number systems (e.g. for Hindi users "{{other date|between|1980|1982}}" will be rendered as "between 1980 and 1982

date QS:P,+1980-00-00T00:00:00Z/8,P1319,+1980-00-00T00:00:00Z/9,P1326,+1982-00-00T00:00:00Z/9

"). If there are no objections I will change all instances of this template to {{Other date}} and delete it. --Slomox (talk) 11:58, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. I initially created this template, not knowing about {{Other date}}. As far as can tell, this template doesn't do anything that isn't already accomplished by the other one. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 12:20, 14 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
This is confusing. Today I changed a trivial template into a useful one. It calls Template:Date and therefore supports differing number systems. It just needs the translation of the word "circa" to support Hindi. But Skeezix1000 answers as if Slomox' remark is about the current template. Anyway, I oppose deletion, because the expansion depth and other counts are lower, so it can be needed. Also, it seems dubious, if year, month and day are available as separate data items, to lump them together and then apply a complicated procedure to separate them again.--Patrick (talk) 13:44, 14 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

other units[edit]

Good template! What about {{circa|21,4 x 27,5 cm}} ? Greetz! Bukk (talk) 10:21, 20 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

rewrite using Lua[edit]

This template is now being translated using Module:Complex date with translations at Module:I18n/complex date. --Jarekt (talk) 04:33, 27 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Spanish translation[edit]

La traducción al español debería cambiarse. Bien se traduce como "hacia", o bien se deja el latín circa o ca. The Spanish translation is wrong. It should be trnslated as "hacia"/"hacia el" or leave the latin circa or ca. --ecelan (talk) 08:16, 3 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

✓ Done thank you. --Jarekt (talk) 22:31, 3 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Currentyear?![edit]

What is that good for (diff)? Example: |date = {{circa}} 1515-1523 within File:Gerard David - Deposition - WGA6004.jpg gives „circa 2016 1515-1523“ --Mattes (talk) 09:41, 21 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The syntax is {{circa|1515|1523}} that gives circa 1515-1523. --Jarekt (talk) 20:15, 21 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but couldn't someone amend to the template, that the current year is not generated if the syntax is wrong (meaning the parameters are not set)? See my example above. „circa 2016 1515-1523“ is awful... Unfortunately, I am not able to change that template source code. --Mattes (talk) 14:36, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I can not reproduce the problem. The file seems fine to me. --Jarekt (talk) 23:08, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Mattes and Jarekt: I just stumbled upon this problem from this wrong injection at Wikidata. The {{CURRENTYEAR}} fallback is a not documented and obviously unexpected behaviour. I have removed it now. I hope you are okay with that. --Marsupium (talk) 23:22, 20 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Marsupium. I think that is fine. --Jarekt (talk) 03:59, 21 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
