"add entry" link

{{Editprotected}} Why does it link to a subcategory (currently Category:Categories for discussion/Current requests/2007/09) rather than the more appropriate Commons subpage (currently Commons:Categories for discussion/Current requests/2007/09) referred to by the "this category's entry" link? What exactly is that link supposed to do? The way it looks now, it encourages adding the discussion directly to the monthly page, which, I think, isn't what is wanted. Shouldn't the link rather create a new subpage? --rimshot^talk 13:44, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

Survey???

There is a March 2008 note about not changing this template until some survey is completed. The instructions in the template are simply wrong, and don't match how {{Cfd2}} works. Why on earth shouldn't we fix this so at least it isn't telling people to do the wrong thing? - Jmabel ! talk 18:21, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

Substitution?

Include category name when nominating?

Currently, if you click nominate for discussion the automated system adds {{Category for discussion|1=|month=05|year=2016}} to the category page. I was wondering if it would be possible to include, by default, the name of the category being nominated, ie. {{Category for discussion|1=Category:Category being nominated|month=05|year=2016}}. That way, if the category is moved, the link to the CFD page won't be lost. As a side benefit, it would also make it easier for copying and pasting the template to related categories under discussion. Thanks. - Themightyquill (talk) 18:13, 31 May 2016 (UTC)

Rewording

Per the discussion at Commons:Categories for discussion/2020/05/Category:Tonic: The text in {{Category for discussion}} should be updated from, "Please do not make major changes to this category or remove this notice until the discussion has been closed." to, "Please do not make major changes to this category, nor categories and page related to this discussion, or remove this notice until the discussion has been closed." Defaults for month and year

Hello, to make the usage of the template more easy, I propose the following changes:

 |2type    = line		→ number
 |2def     = 			→ {{CURRENTMONTH}}
 |2stat    = required		→ optional-

 |3def     = 		 	→ {{CURRENTYEAR}}
 |3stat    = required		→ optional-

• Default values for parameter 2 and 3: {{CURRENTMONTH}} and {{CURRENTYEAR}}
• in this way we can set the stat values for 2 and 3 to optional-, like it is for parameter 1
• change type values for paramter 3 to number, like it is for Parameter 2

It won’t work: {{CURRENTMONTH}} shows the month when the template is displayed (parsed), not when it was inserted. If it was the default, all pages not explicitly specifying a parameter would end up in Category:CfD 2023-01 and link to subpages of Commons:Categories for discussion/2023/01 (including years-old ones), which is clearly not what we want. Also, number is not right for the month, as number is a simple integer (e.g. 1), but the template expects a zero-padded integer (01). —Tacsipacsi (talk) 00:15, 25 January 2023 (UTC)
