I have proposed to change {{Creator}} and {{Institution}} that way that they appear in the collapsed mode in this template at Template talk:Creator. I'd be glad about comments on the proposal there. Thanks, --Marsupium (talk) 21:14, 12 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Integration with Wikidata[edit]

Greetings (and pings to @Zolo: , @Jarekt: , @Léna: , @Oursana: and @Jackmcbarn: ),

as a big fan of "Category definition: Object", I cannot but notice that it duplicates information that should be present on Wikidata. It seems that we should have something similar to is that would simply import information from Wikidata given a simple Q-number. I have drafted something to illustate what I have in mind at User:Rama/Catdef, which you can see in action at Category:Rama-Catdef-test re-implementing most of what we have at Category:Jean-Antoine Chaptal by Philippe-Laurent Roland-2002 1 1 using a simple call to wikidata:Q28054653.

I would welcome comments, suggestions, help and pointers to documentation that would help improve on the idea.

I emphatically agree that we should use data from Wikidata, however, it requires something a bit more complex than your draft. For example, the way you handle {{Creator}} will break when the Wikidata label does not match the name of the creator template in Wikidata, or when there are several creators for the same object.
I'd like to convert infobox templates to Lua, which would make it easier to have more powerful Wikidata-formatting functions, but I am stuck by a stupid html issue (see Module talk:Artwork). Maybe we can stay in Wikitext-mode and start adding Wikidata data - one field at a time to better control what is going on. --Zolo (talk) 09:58, 27 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I have encountered the issue you mention with {{Institution}}, and escaped it with the notion that if the labels do not match then we should have a redirect. But we clearly need something less hacky. Many thanks for your attention, and do let me know if you start something that I can help with. Cheers! Rama (talk) 16:15, 29 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the ping. Not long ago I found {{Label}} by which you can link Wikidata and do not need multilingual tls and can link at the same time. This tl should be proposed more and could also be used in tl Category definition: Object and tl artwork.--Oursana (talk) 17:07, 29 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I have added this to my dirty draft — won't make it a workable template but refines the demonstrator. Cheers! Rama (talk) 20:14, 29 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

3D model[edit]

Hello,

Wikidata has just introduced a "3D model" property (P4896), would it be concievable to add one {{Category definition: Object}}?

This template is now obsolete[edit]

The main difference between {{Category definition: Object}} template and {{Artwork}} used to be that {{Category definition: Object}} adds an image to the right. But images have now been added to {{Artwork}}. So I think this template should be redirected to Artwork, simpler and avoids image duplication. --Zolo (talk) 07:50, 20 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I will after the next update of the Module:Artwork, as the current one does not take image template parameter. --Jarekt (talk) 15:54, 20 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ok thanks. Actually another difference with {{Artwork}} is that this template does not require a source. I think it would make sense to disable the field in the category namespace (or at least make it optional). But not sure what we should do for the file namespace (where the template is called by {{Object photo}}, and the source is shown in {{Information}} rather than {{Artwork}}). --Zolo (talk) 16:50, 20 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Jarekt: I see that you have made it a redirect, but we have an issue with the "source" parameter when the template is transcluded in files, see for example File:Fragonard, The Bathers.jpg where the source is marked as missing even though it is provided in the second infobox. Zolo (talk) 16:37, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I dis take care of "strict" in the Category namespace, but the category is transcluded into a file and my "fix" no longer works. Yes I guess we could do
{{#invoke:Artwork|artwork
 | lang   = {{#if:{{{lang|}}} | {{{lang}}} | {{int:Lang}} }}
 | demo   = {{{demo|<noinclude>1</noinclude>}}}
 | strict = {{{strict|}}}
}}
and that would fix it. However, I feel like we might need to revive the old "Artwork" namespace discussion, as the current system is too complicated. --Jarekt (talk) 16:54, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Zolo I think I Fixed it. Can you verify? --Jarekt (talk) 17:21, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
