Merge templates[edit]

I think these 2 templates can be merged:

I like the graphic and the blue background. I like the title,

"This category is a main category."

I like the rounded corners.

I may try merging into {{Categorise}} since it is already in more languages, and is a simpler template name to remember. Also, {{Categorize}} merges into {{Categorise}}

I am not good at formatting the margins, borders, corners, etc.. Maybe someone else can help with that. --Timeshifter 19:12, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

sounds right: in fact we have {{OverPopCat}}, which is just for service, and will be removed after tiding up, and {{Categorise}} saying "this is a main cat", which will be left in there for ever - so some {{CatDiffuse}} will become OverPopCat, others Categorise (which could be named {{MainCat}} for that purpose) --W!B: (talk) 12:31, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

besides, I think we should include {{Categorytree}} automatically in both/all of them.. - or just here, as we get told Media files and pages in this category should be moved to subcategories where appropriate. - and it would differ it a bit more from Categorise --W!B: (talk) 12:31, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Strange practise[edit]

Has anybody ever wondered why telephone books have never been sorted otherwise than just by name? So why can a category become too crowded? This problem exists just between the ears of some people. It is better to have an alphabetically sorted big category that makes sense than to have dozens of subcategories that just exist becaues someone thought that would be easier than one single big category - Quistnix (talk) 17:36, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

But even telephone books have different sections (white pages, yellow pages, etc.). Rocket000 (talk) 18:23, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
White pages are really divided into sections though .. -- User:Docu at 08:55, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
File names oftentimes are not very explanatory. And the Mediawiki software doesn't allow enough of the filename to be seen in many cases. So those 2 things make it very difficult to rely on alphabetical filenames to sort or find relevant images or media files. --Timeshifter (talk) 00:54, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
