Syntax
{{Place by century
|place = |placetrans =
|image = |imagesize = |border =
|mothercat = |mothercattrans =
|style =
|nobc = |old =
|showall =
}}
Parameters
  • place/subject/1 (mandatory): will produce a "place by century" navigational hat to be placed on top of every "Category:place in the nth century [BC]" page.
    • placetrans/subjecttrans (optional): the translatable name to display in the box if mothercat is not used. This parameter will override the place parameter used to derive the heading.
  • mothercat (optional): the name of the mother category can be specified, without "[[:Category: ]]", if different from the default format "subject by century".
    • mothercattrans (optional): the translatable name to display in the box if mothercat is used. This parameter will override the mothercat parameter.
  • image/img (optional): will add a 20px thumb (for instance a flag) next to the navigation bar. Use image name without "[[File: ]]".
    • imagesize/imgsize/size (optional): will change the size of the image
    • border (optional): if this parameter is found (with any value), border will be added around the image (e.g. for flags that may be difficult to distinguish on the background); don't use it if the image is not rectangular (partially transparent) or already includes its own border.
  • style/css (optional): additional CSS for the container box to override its default style.
  • nobc (optional): if this parameter is found (with any value), the (BC/BCE) or (AD/CE) texts will not appear. This is useful if there are no relevant categories before the 1st century CE.
  • old (optional): if this parameter is found (with any value), the list of centuries is terminated in the 20th century, for categories of "old" works created before 1954 (70 years ago, whose copyright is usually extinct). This is useful to track categories containing works which may be public domain (more recent works are usually subject to copyright and licensing requirements, unless this is explicitly stated being public domain from a reliable and verifiable source).
  • showall/all (optional): if this parameter is found (with any value), links to all century categories starting with the 10th century BC will appear, even if they are empty. This parameter will override the nobc parameter. This is useful is there are other relevant categories to create (these will be shown as red links). Use it temporarily, only in the parent category. If this is used, the labels displayed for each century are not translated but indicate the real value used for every target link.
Simple example

{{Place by century|Greece|placetrans = {{Label|Q41|link=-}}}} produces:

Use with more parameters

{{Place by century|place = Barcelona|image = Bandera de Barcelona de 1996.svg|mothercat = Barcelona by century|mothercattrans = {{LangSwitch|default = {{Label|Q1492|link=-}} by century|es = Historia de Barcelona|fr = Histoire de Barcelone}}|nobc = 1}} produces:

Use with showall

{{Place by century|Greece|placetrans = {{Label|Q41|link=-}}|showall = 1}} produces:

Internationalisation
  • The default heading "subject by century" (only used when the mothercat parameter is not specified) is translated inside this template using the {{LangSwitch}} template. You can add your translations by adding a case with the format |langcode = ... by century in the {{Subject by century}} template.
  • {{BC}}, {{AD}} are used for translating the BC/BCE or AD/CE elements
  • {{Century}} is used to translate the centuries (only when showall/all parameters are not set as they will force the English designation used in the target categories).
