English: A typical hash function at work. Note that the hash sums are always the same size, no matter how short or long the input is. Also note that the hash sums look very different even when there are only slight differences in the input. The hash sums seen here (in hexadecimal format) are actually the first four bytes of the SHA-1 hash sums of those text examples.

Español: Una típica función hash trabajando. Nótese que las sumas son siempre del mismo tamaño, sin importar qué tan larga o corta es la entrada. También nótese que las sumas se ven muy diferentes a pesar de que sólo hay unas pocas diferencias en la entrada. Las sumas vistas (en formato hexadecimal) son de hecho los primeros cuatro bytes para el algoritmo SHA-1 de esos ejemplos.

Ελληνικά: Η συνάρτηση κατεμαχισμού (hash function): Το αποτέλεσμα της σύνοψης είναι ίδιου μεγέθους ανεξάρτητα πόσο μεγάλη ή μικρή είναι η είσοδος. Επίσης η σύνοψη είναι διαφορετική ακόμη και με μικρές αλλαγές στην είσοδο. Η σύνοψη στο διάγραμμα είναι σε δεκαεξαδική αναπαράσταση, εδώ παρουσιάζονται μόνο τα 4 bytes της συνάρτησης κατατεμαχισμού SHA-1.
