This template returns the base language in use. It is a wrapper for the function baseLang in Module:Wikidata2.
The template takes no parameters and is similar to {{int:Lang}}, but it only returns the base language, not the dialect. So if the current language is British English, then it returns en, whereas {{int:Lang}} would return en-gb.
This is useful for constructing links to sister projects whose names are constructed from the base language. e.g. enwiki, dewikivoyage, etc.
