English: Suomenlinna, (Sveaborg in Swedish, until 1918 Viapori in Finnish), is a fortress in Helsinki, the capital of Finland. It is an inhabited sea fortress built on six islands. The building was started in 1748. Building the fortress became a life's work for Augustin Ehrensvärd, Swedish military architect and a lieutenant colonel in the artillery. Augustin Ehrensvärd was also a painter.
