This should perhaps be a wider discussion, but I suggest that Featured, quality and valued images get boosted, at least a little bit. Bawolff (talk) 21:46, 23 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Just go for it, that's what a beta is for: currently the impact would be negligible and can be tweaked calmly. I'm not sure how to deal with Template:Assessments, we could try e.g.
Template:Assessments/commons/featured|250%
Template:Picture of the day|150%

I think assessments by itself would also be good to get so it picks up other assessment types. I suggest:

Template:Assessments/commons/featured|250%
Template:Picture of the day|150%
Template:Valued_image|175%
Template:Assessments|150%
Template:Quality_image|175%

Compare for example (Assuming you have the beta feature checked in your preference), Canada with boost, Canada without those boost templates. We could also maybe consider downgrading things with stuff like Template:Low_quality on it, but for now it might be good to just up the good templates, and worry about the others later. I didn't suggest that because in theory Assessments could be empty, or have some obscure parameter which corresponds to no actual value judgement. Anyway, yes, let's just go for it as a start. :) --Nemo 21:02, 24 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
OK. odder (talk) 13:16, 27 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, my bad, it needs to be Template:Picture_of_the_day|150% instead of Template:Picture of the day|150%. Bawolff (talk) 20:48, 27 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Should be fine :-) odder (talk) 20:58, 27 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Turns out there's a small bug where this isn't used on most searches. Should be fixed soon (gerrit:109737). Bawolff (talk) 21:14, 27 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Category redirects[edit]

We should un-boost the category pages with {{Category redirect}} from full text/title search result matches. Some users have concerns about their visibility. Nemo 17:42, 11 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It would probably be good to gather some example queries with unideal results, so we know how much to unboost by. You can add something like: boost-templates:"Template:Assessments/commons/featured|250% Template:Picture_of_the_day|150% Template:Valued_image|175% Template:Assessments|150% Template:Quality_image|175% Template:Category_redirect|20%" to the end of your search query to test different values. We could also potentially ask the discovery team to special handle that template and treat it like a real redirect. Bawolff (talk) 05:34, 13 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Can't find any severe example right now but for instance Modena has 8 category redirects in the first 500 results; 0 with the 20 % boost Nemo 07:10, 13 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
