Just a quick comment. The tutorial should mention saving the image as plain svg. I know that some images in "inkscape svg" render/used to render badly in the wikimediasoftware. /Lokal_Profil 21:18, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

version[edit]

what is the version number of the depicted inkscape? i think i have the last one, but there are some differences here Canislupusarctos 20:40, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's quite a lot different from the latest one now (.45 I think). How often will the interface change? It's a lot of effort to update the images every time. --Seans Potato Business 00:08, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Just looking at Version 0.47 and version 0.48. I am almost of the opinion we should scrub the whole article-- but then there is very little out there to describe how to use Inkscape-- and no, I have neither the skill or the time! --ClemRutter (talk) 20:27, 15 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Most pictures got updated from 0.43 to 1.0.1. A few are still from 0.91 and 0.92, but that should not be a problem. 4nn1l2 (talk) 20:44, 3 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

End result available?[edit]

Has the finished "No wine" symbol been uploaded to Wikimedia Commons as an SVG? That might be helpful... AnonMoos 09:27, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Alas, I created the symbol while updating screenshots to the newest version (1.0.1), but I didn't save my work! If I ever wanted to update screenshots again in the future, I hope I will remember to upload the end result to Commons too. 4nn1l2 (talk) 20:52, 3 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
✓ Done Feeling better today, I created the image again: File:No Drinking! sign.svg. 4nn1l2 (talk) 18:28, 4 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Page title[edit]

Does anybody else find the title of this page arch, silly, irritating, obscurantist, or, more importantly, an improbable search target? Graphism isn't even a word in the OED. I propose moving it to Commons:Vector graphics tutorial. Globbet (talk) 20:30, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I second the motion, wholeheartedly! Ian Fieggen (talk) 00:25, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
On reflection I think Help: Vector graphics - Inkscape beginner's tutorial might be more accurate. Globbet (talk) 09:45, 13 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Either title would be more appropriate than the current one. Regardless of which you choose, it's where the page is linked from that makes the difference as to whether people will find it. After all, we managed to find this one, despite its bad title. Ian Fieggen (talk) 21:22, 13 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Go for the Commons:Vector graphics tutorial. At the moment it is Inkscape specific, but if other formats become relevant, extra text can be added.ClemRutter (talk) 22:30, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Globbet (talk) 00:02, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rendering TEXT[edit]

Why do my text labels appear perfectly alright in inkscape, but get rendered as ugly black blocks in wikipedia? See nl:Bestand:ATR.svg Yes I did save it as 'plain svg'

Jcwf (talk) 18:14, 1 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. As long as inkscape reamins as obtuse as it is, can wikipedia really blame us for not bothering to do vector graphics? I think all those adhortations to do vector graphics need to go.

I converted the text to path before saving. Waarom? Geen idee! --ClemRutter (talk) 18:53, 1 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You should NOT drag to create flowed text. You should just click where you want to add some text, then write. 4nn1l2 (talk) 20:48, 3 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A request for documentation[edit]

My principle challenge with Inkscape is how to import an image file -- one in, say, JPEG or GIF format -- & convert it into SVG format so I can modify it. Maybe this isn't possible, but I would appreciate a tutorial that explains how it can be done, & under which circumstances. I doubt I'm the only one who has been blocked from creating SVG files by this problem. Any experts willing to accept this challenge & write a tutorial? -- llywrch (talk) 19:25, 13 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Adding Inkscape icons to sub-headings[edit]

Would it be a good edit to:
a.) ADD the matched Inkscape Toolbox icons to a given tool's sub-heading? and place the related Short cut key just below the heading, example:
Select tool
Shortcuts: S, F1, Spacebar

b.) or ADD the related toolbox icon and shortcuts just below the sub-heading, example;
Select tool
, Shortcuts: S, F1, Spacebar

My favorite option is a) since most graphic editors on wikibooks and free on-line manuals use this styling combination, your thoughts please? Vwanweb (talk) 18:09, 12 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I oppose shortcuts. This is a beginners tutorial. Shortucts just confuse beginners, and are useless in this case. 4nn1l2 (talk) 20:43, 3 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
