HAMBOTING LA

Hamboting La (La is a common name of mountain pass in Ladakhi language) is situated on the Kargil-Batalik road. This pass is approx 13,380 feet above sea level. It is located in the Kargil-Batalik section and lies very close to the Line of Control. A JK police post sits at the top of the pass. Before 2014, tourists were required to carry inner line permits to visit this section but in May 2014 the government relaxed those rules and one can visit this place by showing personal identity cards like a driver's license, passport, voter card or other legally issued ID. Kargil-Batalik section bypasses two high passes on the Srinagar-Leh highway i.e. Fotu la and Namik La and joins the NH ID on Khaltse town.
