The branches in this tree are in a totally random order. The "right" order of the branches, however, is under dispute, so unfortunately there may be no one right way to order the branches, but some suggestions that have been made by different shcolars in different time periods can be seen in the article fi:Uralilaiset kielet.--Urjanhai (talk) 15:55, 18 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The division of the larger subgroups also seems random. Veps is closest related to Ludian and Votic to Estonian, neither is particularly close to Finnish; and Nenets is universally not considered a primary branch of Samoyedic. On the other hand, the three Komi dialects are generally considered to be the same language, not equidistant from each other vs. Udmurt. --Tropylium (talk) 00:20, 1 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
