Not a medal, but a multiple Thaler[edit]

Ciao @Sailko:
This is in fact a multiple Thaler, struck to commemorate the 88th birthday of August the Younger. It is depicted in the standard Welter catalogue vol. 2 p. 58, there erroneously labeled # 772A which should probably be 782A, and was apparently struck with the same dies as 4_Thaler_Schaumünze_1666_August_der_Jüngere(Vs)-008.jpg, but is better preserved than the latter. As there were struck 6/5/4/3/2 Thaler pieces from the same dies using flans of different thickness/weight (173/144/114/87/57g) and embossed with the appropriate figure 6/5/4/3/2 on the reverse, it would be nice to know which weight/denomination is yours. Do you remember where you have taken this photo (some musuem?) so one could ask them which multiple Thaler it is? Thanks, --HReuter (talk) 01:18, 13 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

HReuter this medal is in the Bargello Museum, Florence. I just reported what the captation says. --Sailko (talk) 19:54, 13 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sailko: Thanks – frankly, the museum's caption is imprecise/wrong then, as this is a Löser (i.e. not a medal but a coin, albeit not for circulation). Please note another specimen struck from the same dies in c:Category:Löser (Numismatic) next to this one. I have adapted a few catagories accordingly. --HReuter (talk) 21:32, 16 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
