Description The Rocket was one of the first working steam locomotives, and combined all of the technology of the day. It was designed by George Stephenson and his son Robert Stephenson in 1829, It participated in the "Railhill Trials," and was chosen for the Liverpool and Manchester Railway. It averaged 12 mph (20 kph) pulling a full load of 13 tons. This working replica was built in 1979.
