English: Because Wikipedia is supported primarily by individual reader donations, the site truly belongs to the public. That’s an important part of maintaining accountability and trust with our readers and furthering our free knowledge mission. Additionally, the volunteer editors in our community have often felt that advertising would negatively affect our ability to stay neutral and would weaken readers' overall confidence in Wikipedia. We are not against online advertising, nor are we against other organizations that host ads. We just know ads are not appropriate in a project devoted to education and knowledge – and especially one that strives for balance and neutrality.
