| Description |
Maramures is a region in northern Romania, near the border with 'Ukraine. This area is known for maintaining its agricultural tradition, yet free from the effects of industrialization. The region gave up collectivization during the communist dictatorship of Nicolae Ceaucescu, with the result that the population still maintains a strong relationship with the earth. The plowing, mowing hay and many agricultural activities are carried out through manual labor. The people of Maramures are skilled woodworkers: the region is dotted with buildings, churches and monasteries totally made of wood (can not imagine the incredible smell inside buildings). I took this photo while I was on the train, straight to nature. We started from Brasov city the night before: 10 hours of travel to get up to here in these old lands. We woke up around 7 am that day, with the sound of the locomotive that smelled of old and out of the windows of the train this agricultural landscape, light years away from the chaos of horns, cash from people nervous and stressed out.
