| Description |
The farmhouse of Untere Walkenmatte, a block building, built around 1750 with a magnificent, wide gable front. The block console in the foreground shows a profile with a long straight line and a black bead; the edges are decorated with a so-called egg frieze painted alternately red and white. The block console behind shows a much more animated profile with a repeating hinge line, interrupted by short straight lines. The sides of the block consoles are decorated with painted floral tendrils. The decorative motifs are part of the more progressive trend of the older Simmental style. This more progressive direction set in during the 1730s, especially in the lower Simmental and the Diemtigtal. |
