Description

The farmhouse of Untere Walkenmatte, a log construction, built around 1750 with a magnificent, wide gable front. On the plastered, whitewashed wall base of the cellar floor rests the combed threshold crown. The block building (with corner posts on the first floor) stands on this. The gable front on the valley side is richly decorated as a broad splendid façade, a two-line inscription in fracture runs across the entire width. The first residential storey has a row of 5 windows on both sides of the central axis, followed by another row of 4 respectively 3 windows. The first floor has a row of 3 windows on both sides of the central axis and one window in each of the outer wall sections. All the windows are mullioned. White-red painted cube friezes above the lintels and in the parapets emphasise the verticality.

The decorative motifs are part of the more progressive trend of the older Simmental style. This more progressive direction set in during the 1730s, especially in the lower Simmental and the Diemtigtal.
