English: Newsreels in which Dutch subjects of a certain week are presented.
After the war the use of electricity increased enormously. At certain fixed times every 24 hours the maximum amount of electricity is consumed. For the power plants, that could not renewed and expanded during and because of the war, the demand is becoming too much. That's why people are asked during a national campaign to use as little electricity as possible during the so-called peak hours. These are roughly between 7am and 8am and 4:30pm and 6pm. In this report more on this campaign. SHOTS: Ext. and int. power plant; - power pylons in the fields; - a kilowatt-hour meter indicates the increase and decrease of the use of the electricity; - causes of the increasing consumption are shown: the increasing population; the expanding industry; electrification of the railways; - a diagram shows the peak hours; - a man in pyjamas (Henk van Ulsen) is shaving himself in front of the mirror and warms his feet with an electrical stove; the commentator asks him to turn this off; - two housewives are asked in the same manner to do the vacuuming and ironing at another time; - ditto: a man comes home and enters the living room; at the request of the commentator he doesn't leave the light in the hallway on, but switches it off ; -ditto: a family in a living room all have their own separate light; when requested they all sit around a central table lit by one light; - in the power plant an employee checks the meters and switches off the main switch; the lights in the plant switch off and at home the people are lit by candles; - construction activities are shown: mechanics working on a new power pylon; the steel frame of the newly build power plant is already up.

Ná de oorlog is het electriciteitsverbruik enorm toegenomen. Op bepaalde, ieder etmaal regelmatig terugkerende vaste tijden, wordt er maximaal electriciteit afgenomen. Voor de electriciteitscentrales, die tijdens en tengevolge van de oorlog niet konden worden vernieuwd en uitgebreid, is de vraag té groot aan het worden. Daarom wordt er een landelijke actie gevoerd die de mensen vraagt om op die bepaalde tijden, de zgn piekuren, die globaal vallen tussen 07.00 en 08.00 uur s' morgens en 16.30 uur en 18.00 uur 's avonds, zo weinig mogelijk electriciteit te gebruiken. In dit journaal aandacht voor deze actie. SHOTS: - Ext. en int. electriciteitscentrale; - hoogspanningsmasten in de weilanden; - een Kilowattuur-meter geeft stijgen en dalen van het electriciteitsverbruik aan; - oorzaken van toenemend verbruik worden in beeld gebracht: de toegenomen bevolking; de groeiende industrie; electrificatie van de spoorwegen; - een grafiek brengt de piekuren in beeld; - een man in pyjama (Henk van Ulsen) staat zich 's morgens voor de spiegel te scheren en verwarmt zijn voeten met een electrisch kacheltje; de commentator vraagt hem dit uit te schakelen; - aan twee huisvrouwen wordt op dezelfde manier gevraagd om stofzuigen en strijken op een ander moment te willen doen; - idem: een man komt thuis en gaat zijn huiskamer binnen; op verzoek van de commentator laat hij het licht in de gang niet achter zich branden, maar doet het uit; - idem: van een gezin in een huiskamer heeft ieder een eigen lichtplek; op verzoek kruipen ze allen rond een centrale tafel onder één lamp; - in de electriciteitscentrale leest een medewerker meters af en draait de hoofdschakelaar om; de lichten in de centrale doven en thuis zitten de mensen bij een kaarsje; - nieuwbouwactiviteiten worden in beeld gebracht: monteurs werken aan een nieuwe hoogspanningsmast; van een nieuwe electriciteitscentrale in aanbouw staat het stalen geraamte al overeind. |
