Français : La tempête "Derecho" du 21 mai 2022 a parcouru environ 1000 km dans les régions canadiennes, les plus peuplées du sud de l’Ontario et du Québec, de Toronto à Québec. À l’aéroport Pearson de Toronto, une rafale de 120 km/h a été enregistrée, la plus forte jamais notée durant le mois de mai. D’autres bourrasques plus fortes de 144 km/h ont été enregistrées. Des alertes de tornade ont été envoyées aux populations durant tout l’épisode météorologique.

Au pire de la tempête, plus d’un million de clients des distributeurs d'énergie étaient privés d’électricité. Neuf des once décès ont eu lieu en Ontario. Dans le comté d’Uxbridge près de la capitale Ottawa, le passage d’une tornade de catégorie EF2, avec des vents de 195 km/h, a été confirmé par les météorologues.

Lorsque toutes les réclamations auront été reçues, cette tempête de convection majeure figure dans le top 10 des sinistres les plus coûteux pour l’industrie de l’assurance au Canada, selon l’assurance collective Aon Affinity.
English: The "Derecho" storm of 21st of May 2022 in Canada moved some 1,000 km across the most densely populated regions of southern Ontario and Quebec, from Toronto to Quebec City. At Toronto's Pearson airport, a strong gust of 120 km/h was recorded, the strongest ever recorded during the month of May. Other stronger winds of 144 km/h were recorded. Tornado warnings by the gouvernment were issued throughout the storm.

At the height of the storm, more than a million customers of energy distributors were without electricity. Nine of the eleven deaths occurred in Ontario. In the county of Uxbridge, near the capital Ottawa, the passage of an EF2 category tornado, with winds of 195 km/h, has been confirmed by meteorologists.

When all claims have been received, this major convective storm will rank among the top 10 most costly losses for the Canadian insurance industry, according to Aon Affinity Group Insurance.
