Description
English:
Underpass close to the former (15th century) city dith/moat, and as city wall a wood fence-ordered by Sigismund, Holy Roman Emperor,-was here; in 1862 filled in, and city gate(s) replaced by custom house. Information board with map and sketch about the listed/protected buildings of the city inscription: in the 1270s here was the centre of the huge Debrecen family estate. The owners of the land(s), ie. landlords in 1361 got royal privileges. Louis I of Hungary declared in legally fee city (sublevel), but the city only in 1693 got the free city status. It was the capital of the Hungary twice. Today's Petőfi Square was the first fenced public park of the city in 1862 under the name Népkert (~People garden) Emblematic buildings stood here, such as the Debrecen Tribunal (Courthouse), the synagogue and the Royal Hotel, in which poet Endre Ady was also a guest - Petőfi Square, Debrecen, Hajdú-Bihar County, Hungary.
