| Description |
The Novosibirsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre is the largest theatre in Russia, larger than the Bolshoi Theatre (literally "Big theatre") in Moscow, with a dome 60 meters wide and 35 meters high. The dome is a unique construction that supports itself without girders or columns. Located at the very center of the Novosibirsk city, at the Lenin square, it is the symbol of the city. It was constructed during World War Two and since most young men were away fighting Hitler Germany, women and children provided the manpower. First performance was held on May 12, 1945. |
