Edwin Kendall's best-known ragtime piece. Kendall was a musician from New York City and moderately successful as a composer, but one whose quality compositions are often overlooked in the modern day. "The African Hunter" refers directly to former president Theodore Roosevelt. He finished his second term in March 1909 and then left for Africa on a major expedition sponsored by the Smithsonian Institute to collect and catalogue thousands of native plant, animal and bird species. He was in Africa for over a year and the expedition was seen as successful. This edition was published by Seminary Music in New York City in 1909.

Original score source was from the University of Colorado at this link: https://cudl.colorado.edu/luna/servlet/detail/UCBOULDERCB1~78~78~1101786~305837:African-hunter This is a reproduction of the original score.
