Inscriptions
English: Two arabic verses in naskh script. Several reading have been proposed. Translation of Stefano Carboni : "[His/Her] face is like the brilliant shining moon,/ the posture like a tender blooming sprout.". Translation of Nicholas Martinovitch : "And drained the cup the early morning moon...in afternoon the intimate of sovereign."
Français : Deux vers en arabes en calligraphie naskhi. Plusieurs lectures ont été proposées. Traduction de S. Carboni : "Son visage est comme la lune brillante/sa taille est un tendre rameau en fleurs".
Notes
English: This cup has been copied by two european artistes, Philipe-Joseph Brocard in 1860 and J. D. Imberton in 1870. It has been also drawed by Edouard Gerspach in L'Art de la verrerie, Paris, 1885.
Français : Cette coupe a été copiée par deux artistes européens, Philippe Joseph Borcard en 1860 et J. D. Imberton en 1870. Elle a aussi été reproduite en 1885 par Gerspach dans son ouvrage L'Art de la verrerie, Paris, 1885.
