| Description |
English: Sourton: Lew valley The line of gorse bushes is thought to indicate the putative course of a Roman road from Okehampton and Sourton Down to the Tamar. See also P Weddell and S Reed, Excavations at Sourton Down, Okehampton 1986-1991: Roman road, deserted hamlet and other landscape features, Proceedings of the Devon Archaeological Society 55, 1997, 134-5. Looking south west towards Forda. The old trunk road to Cornwall runs up on the right, keeping above the valley floor. It has also been superseded by the new A30, which is aligned further north and runs down to the Thrushel valley |
