Summary[edit]
DescriptionSlayer exciter startup.webm |
English: Showing that the resistor in the "Slayer exciter" oscillator is only important for startup, debunking many incorrect descriptions about how this simple but subtle circuit works. First, the regular circuit is shown, in an "one wire" energy transmission application. Then the resistor is disconnected, and the circuit starts, without the resistor, when the transistor base (actually any point) is touched, due to electrical interference. Finally, it's shown that a capacitor in series with the resistor makes the circuit work normally too, so the current through the resistor is not important after the startup. Note that in the two last cases the oscillator may stop when the load is suddenly increased.
