English: Sign for the Waggonways network The following is an extract from the Local Authority website. "The waggonways were used during the borough's coal mining heyday to haul coal from North Tyneside's many pits down to the River Tyne. They fell into disuse and became overgrown but over the past four years many of them have been restored with funding from to the Government's Liveability Fund and now they provide a green recreation corridor for families and commuters." |
