A number of people have asked for this, so here it is -- the source for the various maps I've produced to illustrate sailing routes. This is based on a public domain Visible Earth product of the Earth Observatory office of the United States government space agency NASA. It is based on a cylindrical equi-distant projection.

You can edit this using The Gimp.
