Summary[edit]

Description
English: Riverside buildings near Pentillie Castle - Bathing House Pentillie Castle, the remains of a mansion can be seen on a mound high above the Tamar as one approaches along the river from the south. Here at river level are two buildings, the closer one being particularly interesting. It has the look of a small chapel - though the chimney is perhaps a little unusual. It is also curious the way it has been built on its own little jetty into the river. If I find out more about it, I'll update this entry.

[Edit] Alan Murray-Rust suggests the following highly plausible explanation: "possibly it's a former boathouse belonging to the Castle. The stonework below the big window - which is just right for an opening - appears to have the remains of an opening at water level into the building which has been filled in later. The windows look to me like a modern addition, possibly there has been a conversion to a dwelling."

[Edit 2 (March 2009)] Rod Allday has found it on the Images of England website https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1158514 where it is described as a Bathing House.
