First edition of this collection of ‘historical and moral reflections’ presented to the Benedictine nuns of Santa Maria degli Angeli in Verona – a strangely elusive congregation which we have been unable to trace. Composed by a Jesuit, the work focuses on illustrious members of the Benedictine Order – including accounts of the lives of no less than 5 different St. Gertrudes: St. Gertrude of Nivelles; St. Gertrude of Franconia; Gertrude of Delft; St. Gertrude of Vorburg; St. Gertrude of Eisleben – as well as the little-known St. Scholastica
