In den 20er Jahren entwickelte sich die Schokkerfischerei zur wichtigsten Fangmethode für den gewerblichen Fischfang auf dem Rhein. 1974 nutzten noch zwei Fischer ihre Schokker für den Aalfang. Der Schokker ist ein Fangschiff ohne eigenen Motorantrieb, das über ein System von Drähten manövriert wird. Die Fangeinrichtung besteht aus Reuse und Ankerkuil. Der Film zeigt den Arbeitsrhythmus des Schokkerfischers Simon Wirtz: Manövrieren in die Fangposition, Einsatz und Säubern der Fangeinrichtung
