Description
English: "Kicking off LGBT pride in San Diego this year is the community's rising of a new civic monumental flag, the Pride flag on University Avenue in Hillcrest. Hillcrest, the home of our city's gay community also received national attention today from the Pentagon. For the first time in history, United States Military men and women will be marching in the Pride parade tomorrow and wearing uniform. Wow, we've come a long way!

To me, this flag celebrates how far we have come for equal human rights, and it's just wonderful this year combines our new flag, forever marking Hillcrest as an LGBT destination spot world wide, as well as being blessed by the US Military in this exceptional show of support and inclusion of it's LGBT people. Someone spoke before this moment that's on video saying that he wants to rip down the flag when someday in the future we have equal rights, where our kids wont get beat up at school and when we can walk down the street arm in arm, hand in hand as gay and lesbian couples without fear of ridicule or other harmful treatment. With all due respect sir, but that day is today and I feel like that's why we are raising this flag. To celebrate the equality we have earned, and to honor the men and women that in days gone by stood up for us and took the beatings and took the ridicule for being gay and fought the hard fights, endured true suffering so that one day, a few thousand of us queers could close off the streets, grab our lover's, friends and children, bring out our best, bring out our drag queens and plant our flag in the middle of our community for the entire world to see. All with the approval and blessing of local and federal law enforcement and the vast majority of people around. That's just my way of looking at all this because I feel it important that we not discount what we have right in front of us. We don't need to wait for some other moment to be at peace and happy, we can choose to do so right now in this moment cherishing and holding high our accomplishments.

HAPPY PRIDE SAN DIEGO! We have finally arrived."
