Description
English: Cherwell Valley railway line at Hampton Gay, Oxfordshire: site of 1874 train crash. On Christmas Eve 1874 a crowded train from Oxford came off the rails and carriages fell down to the canal bank between Hampton Gay and Shipton on Cherwell. About 30 people were killed and 70 injured, the worst train crash up to then. View from Hampton Gay church over the Cherwell to Shipton.
