Description
English: Pursa Kattuna Pursa Kattuna is a traditional ritualistic dance form performed by Tulu-speaking people from various castes across different parts of Belthangady taluk in Dakshina Kannada district. Typically, it marks the conclusion of agricultural activities and is predominantly executed by men. This cultural ritual spans three to five nights, coinciding with the full moon period of the Suggi month. Led by the Gowda community, it fosters unity among participants from diverse castes and features a multitude of unique costumes. Some scholars argue that Pursa Kattuna may have originated under the influence of secret tantric sects during mediaeval Karnataka."
ಕನ್ನಡ: ದಕ್ಷಿಣಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಬೆಳ್ತಂಗಡಿ ತಾಲೂಕಿನ ಹಲವು ಪರಿಸರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ತುಳುಭಾಷೆಯ ಭಿನ್ನ ಜಾತಿ ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯದ ನೂರಾರು ಜನರು ಸೇರಿಕೊಂಡು ನಡೆಸುವ ಸುಗ್ಗಿಕುಣಿತದ ಆಚರಣೆ ʼಪುರ್ಸಕಟ್ಟುನʼ. ತುಳುನಾಡಿನ ಆಚರಣಾತ್ಮಕ ಕುಣಿತವಾಗಿ ಕೃಷಿ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆ ಮುಗಿದ ನಂತರ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಪುರುಷರೇ ಪ್ರಧಾನವಾದ ಈ ಕುಣಿತವನ್ನು ಸುಗ್ಗಿ ಹುಣ್ಣಿಮೆಯ ಅಸುಪಾಸು ಮೂರು, ನಾಲ್ಕು ಅಥವಾ ಐದು ದಿನಗಳ ಕಾಲ ರಾತ್ರಿ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಕುಣಿಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಗೌಡ ಸಮುದಾಯದವರು ಮುಂದಾಳತ್ವ ವಹಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಭಿನ್ನ ಜಾತಿಯವರು ಸೇರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಸಮನ್ವಯದಿಂದ ನಡೆಸುತ್ತಾ ಬರುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ಹತ್ತಾರು ವೈವಿಧ್ಯಮಯ ವೇಷಗಳಿವೆ. ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ಮಧ್ಯಕಾಲೀನ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ರಹಸ್ಯ ತಾಂತ್ರಿಕ ಪಂಥಗಳ ಪ್ರಭಾವವಿದೆಯೆಂದು ವಿದ್ವಾಂಸರು ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯಪಡುತ್ತಾರೆ.
