Description
Português: Por maioria de votos, o Plenário do Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF) confirmou no dia 09 de maio de 2012, a constitucionalidade do sistema de cotas adotado pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). A decisão foi tomada no julgamento do Recurso Extraordinário (RE 597285), com repercussão geral, em que um estudante questionava os critérios adotados pela UFRGS para reserva de vagas. A universidade destina 30% das 160 vagas a candidatos egressos de escola pública e a negros que também tenham estudado em escolas públicas (sendo 15% para cada), além de 10 vagas para candidatos indígenas.
