Summary[edit]

Description
English: Beamish Museum, County Durham, England. This is the view east along Francis Street, which is the back alley behind the miner's cottages in the Pit Village. The wall on the right is the rear of the back yards of the row of cottages. The sheds/yards on the left were presumably also allocated to each cottage, along with long gardens in the front. A reenactor with a Shetland pony are seen in conversation with two of the museum's visitors. Use of reenactors and animals like this gives some idea what you might have seen in the time when small breeds like this were the main source of power for hauling coal from the mines, such as from inside the drift mine in the nearby Colliery.
