Summary[edit]

Description
English: Optogenetic activation of targeted muscles in an anesthetized rat. AAV6:ChR2 was injected into the gastrocnemius five weeks earlier. The gastrocnemius was attached to a force transducer through the Achilles' tendon and had EMG wires placed in the belly of the muscle. Six pulses of blue light (20 mW light power, 5 ms pulse duration, 1 Hz) were directed onto the sciatic nerve resulting in contraction in the gastrocnemius muscle.
