Open pit lignite mining in Garzweiler, Germany

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Bucket-wheel excavator in the open pit lignite mine Garzweiler guarded by police during the Luetzerath-protests. Since many years there are protests against the extension of this open pit mine because of the destruction of villages and nature and especially the CO2 released by the combustion of the coal that is mined. The fights for climate justice, enviroment and the rights of residents focus here.
