English: Newsreels in which Dutch subjects of a certain week are presented.
1) BATAVIA: because of the Japanese occupation a lot of cars have turned to rust. SHOTS: (from 00:00) - wrecked cars in the streets; car dump with wrecked cars, partly overgrown; - Dutch soldiers (indistinctly uniformed) work on the cars. 2) BANGKA: on the island of Bangka the population receive medical aid from the Red Cross. SHOTS: (from 00:58) - helpers load boxes of cans (with whole milk?) on a lorry; - nurses from the Red Cross hand out quinine pills in the open air and give eye drops to the native population; - cans of biscuits are emptied and the biscuits are handed out to children. 3) BANGKA: because of the recovery of tin, a complete industry has arisen that makes decorative objects out of tin. SHOTS: (from 01:45) Chinese boys manually do tin work in a workshop.

1) BATAVIA: door de Japanse bezetting zijn veel auto's tot oud roest gedegradeerd. SHOTS: (va 00:00) - autowrak in de straat; autokerkhoven met autowrakken, deels overgroeid; - Nederlandse militairen (niet duidelijk geuniformeerd) sleutelen aan de auto's. 2) BANKA: op het eiland Banka wordt de bevolking door het Rode Kruis voorzien van medische hulp. SHOTS: (va 00:58) - op een een vrachtauto stapelen helpers kisten en conservenblikken (met volle melk?) op; - Rode Kruisverpleegsters delen in de open lucht kininetabletten uit aan en dienen oogdruppels toe bij de inlandse bevolking; - blikken biscuits worden leeggeschud en de biscuits worden uitgedeeld aan kinderen. 3) BANKA: tgv de tinwinning is er op het eiland een complete industrie ontstaan waarbij tinnen siervoorwerpen worden gemaakt. SHOTS: (va 01:45) Chinese jongens werken in een werkplaats handmatig aan de vervaardiging van tinnen edelsmeedwerk. |
