8vo. 220 pp, (2), including full-page woodcut of the Virgin Mary. Early patterned cartonnato. Sole edition. Bianca Maria Cocastelli was preparing to enter a local convent at the age of 19 when she suffered a fall down the staircase of the family home. Debilitated, she concealed the incident from her parents, fearing that she would not be physically fit to take the habit. Her internal injuries worsened and soon she was on her deathbed; she had already received the last rites when she paid a final visit to a statue of the Virgin Mary at the local Benedictine convent, and was miraculously healed. Her father was so overjoyed at this that he prepared the present collection of sonnets and touching essays celebrating his daughter's return to health
