The photograph shows a view of soldiers on a high ridge in the background. A group of tipis are visible in the background, and a number of Lakota Indians are present in the foreground. White writing in the right corner of the image reads: “Disarming Hostile Indians Pine Ridge Agency S.D. CopyRighted N.W. Photo Co Chadron Neb”. Another note in white in the left corner of the image, spaced to be written on a log wall reads: “Miles Coming in Pine Ridge S.D.”. This image was created by the Northwestern Photographic Company circa 1890, around the time of the Battle of Wounded Knee.
