Description |
English: In this image, a group of men pose with a horse-drawn wagon on the boardwalk along First Avenue just past Cherry Street. The wagon appears to be carrying a large slab of marble or other stone, perhaps part of the reconstruction efforts after the Great Seattle Fire of 1889. The facade advertising "Pianos and Organs" belongs to the Lowman and Hanford Stationery and Printing Company, at 616 First Avenue. The company moved to this location after the Great Fire destroyed their previous location. The original two-story building was added onto in 1892 to create a four-story structure. Signs in image: H. Hersberg & Co.; Chicago Shoe Store; Lowman & Hanford Stationery and Printing Company; Drs. Merrill & Merrill, Specialists; Seattle Medical and Surgical Dispensary; The Brunswick, Balke, Gollender Co., Billiard and Pool Tables; The Horse Shoe Cafe; McNaugh Land and Investment Co.; Mrs. Mr. D.
