English: LIBI_00263_07840; A photograph 9 1/2” x 7 1/4" mounted on a 10" x 8' card. The photograph is in fair condition. It shows a mounted Indian scout dressed in a cavalry uniform of the 1880's. He is identified on the back of the photograph as Medicine Pipe. The background shows three Sibley tents and a male Indian with one arm tentatively identified as Two Whistle. A handwritten note on verso reads: “Two Whistles (?)- one armed man”, written in blue ink, and “mont-soldier = Medicine Pipe (Big Medicine?)” written in pencil. The words “killer of Proud Bear” (presumably relating to Big Medicine) are crossed out. The words “Fort Custer” are written upside-down along the bottom in blue ink. The photograph was taken at Fort Custer, MT, circa 1885.
