Original caption InfoField | English: Description in Flemish paintings C. 1600-C. 1800 III, Nationalmuseum, Stockholm, 2010, cat.no. 126:
Technical notes: The support consists of a single piece of evenly woven plain-weave fabric similar to that of no. 123. The painting has been lined. The ground covers evenly and the paint layers have been applied thinly. Light grey underpainting is visible below the flesh tones. The painting displays major cracking and cupping and the colour surface has faded distinctly. The painting underwent conservation treatment in 1927. Provenance: Transferred in 1866 from Gripsholm Bibliography: Granberg 1912, p.28, no. 122 (?); Cat. Gripsholm I, Stockholm 1951, p. 17. This portrait which probably depicts Maria Leopoldina, Archduchess of Austria, consort of Emperor Ferdinand III (see no. 122) alludes to Frans Luyckx’s style of portraiture. The painting is simple and stylised and depicts the subject against a background of partly hanging draperies. The portrait depicts its subject in a red gown embroidered in silver and with a white collar and around her neck and in her hair she has a number of splendid jewelled ornaments. There is a companion piece to this portrait depicting the subject’s husband, Ferdinand III (no. 121). KS [End]Svenska: Se även beskrivning i den engelska versionen Kopia |
