Description |
English: Description in Flemish paintings C. 1600-C. 1800 III, Nationalmuseum, Stockholm, 2010, cat.no. 123:
Technical notes: This painting’s support consists of a single piece of coarse, evenly and uniformly woven fabric with a selvedge at the bottom. The painting is mounted on a non-original strainer. The tacking edges have not been trimmed. The ground is brown and has been evenly applied to cover the texture of the canvas completely. The paint layer has been applied opaquely with coarse and distinct brushstrokes. The painting is in poor condition and is probably a 19th century copy. Provenance: Transferred in 1866 from Gripsholm. Bibliography: Cat. Gripsholm I, Stockholm 1951, p. 50. This portrait of Leopold Wilhelm, Archduke of Austria, is painted simply with coarse brushstrokes. It depicts Leopold Wilhelm en face with a drapery hang- ing in the background. The subject is wearing armour with a flat white collar and a light red armband. The painting is based on an original in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna (inv. no. 2754). KS [End]Svenska: Se även beskrivning i den engelska versionen Kopia |
