8vo. (44), 602 pp, (2), plus engraved frontispiece. Contemporary calf. “Hermanas del Sagdo. Corazon de Maria, Arenys de Mar” as well as stamp of a priest, A. Saudrea?. First edition. Swiftly placed on the Index Librorum Prohibitorum in 1725 due to the Quietistic associations of the author and subject. Brion was Soeur Marie's spiritual director, and was himself of the mystical school of Madame Guyon; Marie de Sainte Therese was another follower of these 'contemplatives'. This Carmelite mystic's Vie even attracted the attention of a German Lutheran theologian, Friedrich Christoph Oetinger, who translated the present work into German in 1734
