Deutsch: Die Anlage wurde von den Genfer Architekten Léon und Frantz Fulpius als Kontrollamt entworfen, um den Feingehalt der Edelmetalle für die Uhrenindustrie zu kontrollieren. Der Bieler Stadtbaumeister August Fehlbaum leitete und überwachte die Bauarbeiten von 1899 bis zur Einweihung 1901. 1935 wurde das Kontrollamt eidgenössisch und zog in ein anderes Gebäude. Seither wird der Bau als Verwaltungsgebäude genutzt und ist seit der Auflösung der Kontrollgesellschaft AG 1955 Eigentum der Gemeinde Biel. Trotz der Umnutzung seit 1935 wird das Gebäude bis heute Kontrollgebäude genannt.
Français : Le bâtiment a été conçu par les architectes genevois Léon et Frantz Fulpius comme un bureau de contrôle afin de contrôler la teneur en métaux précieux pour l'industrie horlogère. L'architecte municipal biennois August Fehlbaum a dirigé et supervisé les travaux de construction de 1899 jusqu'à l'inauguration en 1901. En 1935, le bureau de contrôle est devenu fédéral et a déménagé dans un autre bâtiment. Depuis lors, le bâtiment est utilisé comme bâtiment administratif et, depuis la dissolution de la société de contrôle SA en 1955, il est la propriété de la commune de Bienne. Malgré le changement d'affectation depuis 1935, le bâtiment est encore appelé aujourd'hui bâtiment de contrôle.
English: The facility was designed by the Geneva architects Léon and Frantz Fulpius as a control office to check the content of precious metals for the watchmaking industry. the Biel city architect August Fehlbaum directed and supervised the construction work from 1899 until the inauguration in 1901. in 1935, the control office became federal and moved to another building. Since then, the building has been used as an administrative building and has been the property of the municipality of Biel since the dissolution of the Kontrollgesellschaft AG in 1955. Despite the change of use since 1935, the building is still called the Control Building today.
