| Description |
English: Kelsey Hill Gravel Pit, Burstwick, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. This water-filled gravel pit has a little place in local history: in July 1853 an Act was obtained for the building of the Hull to Withernsea railway line, and prominent Hull businessman Anthony Bannister cut the first sod here at Kelsey Hill to open a gravel pit which would supply ballast for the line. The new rails were laid from a starting point just south of here and provided a means of transport to the sites where work was proceeding westward towards Victoria Dock, Hull and eastward towards Withernsea.
