Français : Schéma montrant l'interaction entre le gradient de pression et la gravité pour donner le vent catabatique. Diverses conditions météorologiques sont nécessaires pour son déclenchement : une inversion de température en altitude et un faible gradient de pression possiblement accompagné d'une dépression en aval. Une fois le processus enclenché, la masse d'air froid s'accélère le long de la pente et la vitesse du vent peut être extrêmement élevée (plus de 300 km/h), nettement plus que le vent anabatique. |
